Personality: Lan is brash, boastful, and frank, causing him to be seen as callous by most who meet him. On the other hand, he is also sincere, straightforward, and honest; he will always tell you exactly what he wants to do or what he thinks about something. It doesn’t even occur to him to conceal his thoughts or motives. He is also extremely pragmatic; the mission is the mission and everything else is a distraction. He’s still learning to live as a mercenary rather than a soldier, so he isn’t naturally opportunistic about new possibilities that are presented to him. He does respect the opinions of the other members of the group (even Barnaby, whose opinions are non sequitur at best and life-threatening at worst) and will always be looking for an agreed upon best course of action. He is uncomfortable with the role of leader that has been defaulted to him since the departure of Krumrok but understands and respects the responsibility that it brings.
History: Lan grew up in a wild elf tribe that was very war-focused. He grew to be a skilled warrior with polearms and eventually was able to best all of his peers. He grew bored with the lack of challenge in his home and went out to seek better opponents and new fighting styles. He quickly realized that the best way to consistently challenge himself was to become a front-lines soldier. He did that for a few years and fought alongside Krumrok. When they left the army, they decided (drunkenly) to start a mercenary company and call it the Empty Keg. When they sobered up, they actually decided to do it and were able to quickly find a solid group of companions to gallivant around…though their mercenary works were quickly swept up into a much bigger story than they anticipated.
Motivations: He’s still a thrill and challenge-seeker at his core, but he’s also mission-focused. His current mission has taken a number of unexpected turns and he’s starting to lose sight of the end goal, which bothers him. But as he gets closer to the big picture problems with the world, he thinks back to his tribe and still feels the need to protect them (and the rest of the world) from these overbearing evils. Secretly, he also really enjoys the idea of being a celebrity hero, known worldwide for vanquishing some great evil and defeating some incredible foe.
